Bright Lights

The kids had a fun week last week. They attended a Bright Lights camp every afternoon. Bright Lights is a non-profit organization that runs a summer enrichment camp for school-aged kids, I think K-8. They had all sorts of fun topics that they explore in-depth for a half a day that week. There are things like weather, music, reptiles, farms and much more. We signed the kids up back in April and they each chose what they wanted to do. Will chose a science class (surprise, surprise) called "Super Science, Super Stars" and Xander and Grace ended up choosing the same one "Dr. Seuss is Loose". They had a great time! I was super impressed by the quality of these camps. They're all run by certified teachers, local and from other places. 

Here are some pictures of Xander and Grace's final day. The parents were invited to come at the end of the last day and they put a little program on for us. From "The Lorax" they learned about earth conservation, so they sang some songs about that, the teacher talked a bit, then they ate Dr. Seuss inspired snacks. Very cute! During the week they made the cutest Dr. Seuss crafts, watched movies, read books, sang songs and did everything Seuss related. They were even called by their "Seuss" names, which were their names backwards. Rednax is Xander's backward name, and I love that so I've been calling him Rednax a lot lately. Ecarg is Grace's backwards name, which is also fun.

Will loved his science class. He would hop into the car and talk the entire way home about the experiments he did. Then, when we got home, he would try to do the experiments again, making a huge mess in my kitchen! He just loved everything about it, and used words like "scientific inquiry" and "hypothesis" all week. His little program at the end consisted of a few songs about magnets and electricity, then they were able to show up all the things they had done experiments with all week. He had fun showing us the magnets and circuits. He also demonstrated the balloon car we had heard so much about all week. They had a fun week, I think we will try to do a Bright Lights every year!!
